CWGC Family Details | Son of William and Hannah Morris, of Handel House, Newbridge, Mon.
Family & Census Details | William and Hannah Morris were both born in 1865 they were married around 1890 and had five children as
they moved from place to place in South Wales and the West of England. Gertrude was their first child, born in Hengoed in 1891. Their second child, Margaret, was born a year later in Newbridge. In 1894 twins Bernard and Annie were born by which time the family appear to have been living in Aberystwyth. The family appear to have suffered from a severe case of “itchy feet” as they moved again before the birth of their fourth daughter, Doris, in 1891. This time they ventured further afield and she was born in Barnstaple, Devon! According to the 1911 census the family came back to Newbridge and Bernard was working as an apprentice fitter, his records from the Royal Naval Division indicate that by the time he joined he had become an assistant electrician. This would probably have been at the Celynen Colliery as he is listed on their Roll of Honour
